Description

A crispy and spicy appetizer that’s easy to make at home, perfect for impressing guests.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined, tails removed)
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 3/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 ½ tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
  • 1-2 teaspoons Sriracha hot sauce (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Combine the shrimp, buttermilk, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Allow the shrimp to marinate for 10 minutes.
  2. Pour the cornstarch into a shallow dish.
  3. Remove each shrimp from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Next, coat it in the cornstarch and place on a baking sheet. Repeat until all shrimp are coated.
  4. Heat 1½ inches of oil in a large pot to 350°F.
  5. Fry the shrimp in batches for about 2 minutes, or until golden brown. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
  6. Transfer the fried shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. Mix together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha in a large bowl. Add the fried shrimp and toss until all are evenly coated.

Notes

For a tropical twist, add shredded coconut to the cornstarch or substitute buffalo sauce for a spicier kick.
