Description
A crispy and spicy appetizer that’s easy to make at home, perfect for impressing guests.
Ingredients
- 1 pound large shrimp (peeled and deveined, tails removed)
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 3/4 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 ½ tablespoons Thai sweet chili sauce
- 1-2 teaspoons Sriracha hot sauce (or to taste)
Instructions
- Combine the shrimp, buttermilk, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Allow the shrimp to marinate for 10 minutes.
- Pour the cornstarch into a shallow dish.
- Remove each shrimp from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Next, coat it in the cornstarch and place on a baking sheet. Repeat until all shrimp are coated.
- Heat 1½ inches of oil in a large pot to 350°F.
- Fry the shrimp in batches for about 2 minutes, or until golden brown. Ensure the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
- Transfer the fried shrimp to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Mix together the mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, and sriracha in a large bowl. Add the fried shrimp and toss until all are evenly coated.
Notes
For a tropical twist, add shredded coconut to the cornstarch or substitute buffalo sauce for a spicier kick.
