A delicious baked French Toast Casserole that captures the flavors of traditional French toast with less effort and cleanup, perfect for holiday mornings.
Ingredients
- Half a loaf of French bread (about 8 oz), cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 cup packed brown sugar (light brown sugar recommended)
- 6 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk (or your preferred milk)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon, divided
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar for topping
- Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F. Butter a 9×13-inch baking dish and set it aside.
- Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and stir in 1 cup of brown sugar until dissolved. Pour into the prepared baking dish.
- Scatter the bread cubes over the brown sugar mixture, distributing them evenly.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, and 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Pour over the bread cubes and press down any dry spots.
- Sprinkle the remaining teaspoon of cinnamon and the tablespoon of brown sugar over the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown and set. Dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
Best served warm with maple syrup and fresh berries. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
