Description

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef (or turkey for a lighter option)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, grated or finely chopped
  • 1 celery stalk, finely chopped
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 12 oz (340g) spaghetti
  • Grated Parmesan cheese for serving


Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat a drizzle of olive oil over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion, garlic, carrot, and celery. Sauté for about 5 minutes until softened.
  3. Increase the heat to medium-high, and add the ground meat. Cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, cook the spaghetti according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  6. Serve the Bolognese sauce over the spaghetti and finish with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese.

Notes

For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or finely chopped mushrooms. Fresh herbs can enhance flavor.
