A hearty make-ahead breakfast casserole combining crispy hash browns, savory sausage, fluffy eggs, and melted cheddar cheese, perfect for Christmas morning or feeding a crowd.
Ingredients
- 2 pounds hot breakfast sausage
- 1 (30-32 ounce) bag frozen shredded hash browns
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and spray a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium-high heat until fully cooked, about 8-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add frozen hash browns to the skillet and cook until lightly browned, about 5-7 minutes.
- Spread the browned hash browns in the bottom of the baking dish.
- Layer cooked sausage over the hash browns and sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Pour this mixture over the layered ingredients.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight or bake immediately in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes until set and golden brown.
- Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting and serving.
