Description

Create a restaurant-quality honey garlic shrimp dish at home with this quick and easy recipe that balances sweet and savory flavors while highlighting the shrimp’s natural sweetness.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large raw shrimp (16-20 count), peeled and deveined
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil for brushing the pan
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
  • 2 tablespoons mild-flavored honey
  • ½ teaspoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Asian fish sauce
  • 1 cup thinly sliced green onion for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp: Ensure shrimp are fully thawed and well drained. Pat dry and keep refrigerated while you make the marinade.
  2. Mix the marinade: In a bowl, whisk together minced garlic, honey, grated ginger, soy sauce, and fish sauce until well combined.
  3. Marinate the shrimp: Add shrimp to the marinade and toss thoroughly. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30-60 minutes, tossing occasionally.
  4. Heat your pan: Brush a large nonstick skillet with vegetable oil and heat over high heat until small wisps of smoke appear.
  5. Sear the shrimp: Immediately transfer shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Set excess marinade aside.
  6. Cook and flip: Sear shrimp without moving for 2 minutes, then flip and pour in the reserved marinade. Cook for 1 additional minute.
  7. Create the glaze: Turn off the heat and flip the shrimp once more. Let them sit for about 1 minute to create a glaze from the residual heat.
  8. Garnish and serve: Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with sliced green onions. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use large shrimp (16-20 count) for the best results. Be sure to not marinate shrimp longer than 1 hour to avoid changing its texture. This dish pairs well with rice or noodles and can be made low-carb by serving over cauliflower rice.
