Description
Delicious homemade biscuits that are flaky on the outside and soft on the inside, made with simple pantry staples.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour (250g)
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, very cold (85g)
- 3/4 cup whole milk (177ml)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Whisk together until evenly distributed.
- Shred the very cold butter into the flour mixture using a box grater, stirring gently to distribute.
- Pour in the cold milk and stir just until combined, ensuring not to overmix.
- Transfer the dough to a floured surface, pressing it together gently if too sticky.
- Fold the dough in half over itself, then flatten it back down. Repeat this folding process 5-6 times.
- Flatten the dough to about 1 inch thick and cut out biscuits using a floured biscuit cutter.
- Place cut biscuits on the baking sheet less than 1/2 inch apart.
- Gather scraps, handle gently, and cut additional biscuits until you have at least 6.
- Bake for 12 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Brush with melted butter if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
It’s crucial to keep the butter as cold as possible to achieve flaky layers. You can also customize these biscuits with herbs or cheese.
