Description
A comforting breakfast casserole combining crispy hash browns, savory sausage, fluffy eggs, and melted cheese, perfect for lazy mornings and entertaining.
Ingredients
- 1 (2-pound) package frozen hash brown potatoes, thawed
- 1 pound pork sausage, maple-flavored
- 1 small onion, diced
- 5 large eggs (increase to 6-10 for a larger pan)
- 1/2 cup milk (or half-and-half)
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and ground black pepper, to taste
- 12 ounces shredded cheddar cheese (about 3 cups)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Grease a deep-sided 8×8-inch square pan (or 9×13-inch for easier handling). Spread thawed hash brown potatoes evenly across the bottom.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage and diced onion, stirring until the sausage is browned and crumbled, about 10 minutes. Drain excess grease and set aside.
- Whisk eggs, milk, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a large bowl until combined and smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the hash browns in the prepared pan. Sprinkle half the cheddar cheese over the eggs, followed by the cooked sausage mixture, and finish with remaining cheese. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour. Remove foil, and return to oven for another 10 minutes until a knife inserted comes out clean and cheese is golden.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Leftover casserole can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave or the entire casserole in the oven.
