Ingredients

  • 2 cups sushi rice
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Nori sheets (dried seaweed)
  • Fillings: cucumber, avocado, crab, shrimp, or tofu
  • Soy sauce (for dipping)
  • Wasabi and pickled ginger (optional)


Instructions

  1. Rinse the rice: Wash 2 cups of sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Cook the rice: In a rice cooker or saucepan, combine the rinsed rice with 2 cups of water and cook.
  3. Season the rice: Transfer the cooked rice to a bowl, mix with rice vinegar, sugar, and salt.
  4. Prepare your fillings: Slice your chosen fillings into thin strips.
  5. Assemble: Place a nori sheet on a bamboo mat, wet hands, and spread rice.
  6. Add fillings across the middle of the rice.
  7. Roll it up: Start rolling and seal the edge with water.
  8. Slice: Slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.

Notes

Serve fresh with a side of soy sauce. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 24 hours.
