Description

This easy meatloaf is a kitchen classic, delivering comfort food with a sweet-tangy glaze.

Ingredients

  • pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup dried bread crumbs (plain or Italian seasoned)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • ⅓ cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons prepared mustard (yellow or Dijon)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray or butter.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, milk, bread crumbs, and egg. Season generously with salt and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Press the meat mixture evenly into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard until smooth. Spread this mixture over the top of the meatloaf.
  5. Bake for about 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is no longer pink in the center (internal temperature should reach 160°F).
  6. Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Sautéing the onions before adding them to the mixture enhances sweetness. You can substitute crackers for breadcrumbs for added flavor.
