Ingredients
- 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
- 1 large egg
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup dried bread crumbs (plain or Italian seasoned)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- ⅓ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons prepared mustard (yellow or Dijon)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan with cooking spray or butter.
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, chopped onion, milk, bread crumbs, and egg. Season generously with salt and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Press the meat mixture evenly into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.
- In a small bowl, mix the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard until smooth. Spread this mixture over the top of the meatloaf.
- Bake for about 1 hour, or until the meatloaf is no longer pink in the center (internal temperature should reach 160°F).
- Let the meatloaf rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing.
Notes
Sautéing the onions before adding them to the mixture enhances sweetness. You can substitute crackers for breadcrumbs for added flavor.
